Juicers FAQ
The PLUS at our Healthy Kitchen is Service, Information, & Quality!
How reliable are home juicers?
Typically
a good home juicer will last 5 to 10 years. They are built to be used and
you can use them daily. If you plan to use them in a commercial location,
they will not stand up to extensive use every day. You need to purchase a
commercial juicer that has much more power.
How powerful does a juicer need to be?
Juicers are rated by watts, not
RPM’s. For example, if you want to have a dependable juicer it should have
at least 450 watts. Many of the good home juicers have 500 watts and some
more. High RPM’s can actually be a negative depending on what you are
juicing.
Are juicers easy to clean?
Most are very easy to clean and it is
important to clean them after each use to avoid bacteria buildup.
What should I do with the pulp?
It can be used for a number of
things. It can be used in many different recipes like breads and muffins
(but not too much-maybe a cup or less per loaf of bread), or it is excellent in
spaghetti sauces in addition to the tomatoes. It is great for many different
types of stews and exceptionally good in soup!
Will I have to chop the fruits and
vegetables?
In most cases you will have to cut them
to fit the opening of the juicer.
If I juice, do I have to eat produce
too?
Yes. Juicing should be considered
a healthy addition to eating properly. Don’t quit eating the roughage
that you need for many healthful reasons.
Does it matter whether I use organic
fruit and produce?
Yes. It is always better to use
organic products. If you can’t find what you need or cannot afford them,
then be sure that you clean the non-organic fruit and produce very well.
Does it cost a lot to juice?
It does and there is no way to get
around it. But I don’t weigh the cost vs. the health and life giving
benefits based on dollars and cents. If you look at it on that basis
alone you will never juice. If you consider the better lifestyle for you
and your family for all the days that you are alive, it will probably be easy
to decide that you will want to juice. It is really hard to put a value
on feeling great because your body is getting all of the fuel it needs to
do the job.
Can I juice ahead?
If you do, you will be losing the
nutrient value. It is best to consume the juice as soon as you finish
juicing. Oxidation destroys the nutrients quickly and within a few hours
all or most of the nutrients are gone. You can store it for a few hours,
but no more and even then it is not the nutrient quality that you juiced for.
